William James
Biography
William leads the analytics innovation team in the non-life insurance software division of Willis Towers Watson. His team is responsible for integrating machine learning methods into existing products, inventing novel AI solutions to insurance problems and ensuring the technical fidelity of the industry-standard Emblem and Radar product suite. He joined Willis Towers Watson in 2015 and led the pricing consulting team in France until 2019.
Prior to this, William spent 5 years as principal consultant and founder of a consultancy specializing in actuarial reporting and modelling. This followed three years with the catastrophe modelling and reinsurance team in AXA Group Risk Management.
Early in his career, William specialized in optimized pricing, helping several boutique consultancies adapt behavioral modelling to insurance pricing. This included two years in Australia, where he developed a market-leading price optimization engine.
William began his career at CGU Insurance in 2000, now IAG, and taught statistics at the University of Melbourne for over 5 years.
William is an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries Australia, holds a Ph.D. in mathematical physics, BSc, BCom (Hons 1st Actuarial Studies).
