Biography

Matt Tataryn is the Director of Financial Crime Risk and MLRO (SMF17 & SMF3) at Tide, a leading digital banking platform serving over 1.5 million SMEs globally. Over the past six years, he has built and scaled Tide’s second line of defence FC teams, designing a Financial Crime function that has evolved alongside the company’s rapid growth and regulatory complexity.

Prior to Tide, Matt led Santander’s Financial Crime Apprenticeship Programme, where he focused on developing the next generation of industry professionals. He also brings a wealth of international experience from previous roles at Barclays and Amazon, working across risk management, compliance, and fraud in both corporate and fintech environments.

Matt’s approach is grounded in building Financial Crime teams that think beyond the conventional. He prioritises training that cultivates both technical expertise and creative problem-solving, empowering teams to adapt in a constantly shifting threat landscape. He believes that effective financial crime prevention is a blend of data science, regulatory intelligence, and narrative thinking, a combination that enables teams to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminal methodologies.
