Cmd raises $15m in Series B led by GV
Cybersecurity company Cmd has raised $15m in its Series B round which was led by GV, formerly Google Ventures.
Participation to the round also came from Expa, Amplify Partners and unnamed strategic investors. The close of the round brings the company’s total funding efforts up to $21.6m.
With the new line of funding, the RegTech is looking to grow its product and engineering teams to foster the development of its defensive capabilities.
Founded in 2016, the company aims to help CIOs, CTOs and security teams to log, understand, predict and control user behaviours within their Linux environments. The platform offers visibility and real-time pre-execution without the need of manual input.
The Canadian-headquartered company enables users to monitor all executions, monitor all usage, proactively detect insider threats, block suspicious activity and automate responses to detected risks.
Cmd co-founder and CEO Jake King said, “There’s an alarming disconnect between the most highly publicized threats and the ones that security practitioners—the ones on the front lines whose role is to protect the organization’s most valuable data—believe pose the largest risk.
“Defenders have to take on the mindset of the attackers, who are always looking for the easiest way to enter a network undetected.
“For most organizations, that threat lurks in their underdeveloped approach to securing their infrastructure. Today, that is usually their Linux systems. From rampant use of shared keys to unmanaged privileged access to a lack of insight into the activity happening on these servers, we’ve realized many organizations are flying blind when it comes to Linux security. We’re giving them a flashlight.”
As part of the deal, GV general partner Karim Faris has joined the Cmd board of directors.
Late last year, GV took part in the $30m funding round of third-party cyber risk management company CyberGRX. The RegTech company brings third-parties together with custoemrs in order to counter threats with advanced analytics.
