Summary

Y Combinator provides seed funding for startups. Seed funding is the earliest stage of venture funding. It pays startups’ expenses while they’re getting started.
Some companies may need no more than seed funding. Others will go through several rounds.

Y Combinator’s goal is to get startups through the first phase, in order to introduce them to later stage investors—or occasionally even acquirers.

Y Combinator is now accelerating over 80 companies per cycle. In addition, Y Combinator offers a new service called YC Fellowship. Companies that are apart of YC Fellowship will benefit from acceleration on a smaller scale. YC Fellowship provides resources and connections to involved companies, but is less of a commitment than the core program.
