Customer relationship management company Bold Orange has acquired Great Lakes Scrip Center, a gift card fundraising provider.
Great Lakes is a gift card fundraising platform that helps non-profits and organisations to raise money for initiatives.
The platform works by a local organisation selling its branded gift cards to supporters, who in turn, use the cards at both physical and digital stores. A percentage of all purchases are returned to the organisations as a rebate.
Some of the brands card holders can spend the cards include Starbucks, Target, Amazon, Safeway and Best Buy, among others. Great Lakes has helped more than 48,000 local organisations and non-profits to raise over $680m to pay for equipment and fees.
Through the investment, Bold Orange plans to invest in Great Lakes’ online experience and marketing tools.
Bold Orange founder and CEO Margaret Murphy said, “Together with their talented team of employees, we plan to blend traditional scrip fundraising with a more modern digital experience – connecting with people in ways that are even easier, more relevant, and more meaningful.”
Late last month, non-profit crowdfunding platform Funraise closed a $9.7m Series A funding round led by Toba. The company provides organisations with means to access global donations and a portable reader to accept contributions on-the-go.
Online crowdfunding platform Kimbia, was acquired by Rand Capital-backed GiveGab, a non-profit fundraising platform, last month. The acquisition was completed, to help GiveGab become one of the biggest charitable software platforms.
