Financial research platform Sentieo has collected $6m in its funding round led by Clocktower Ventures and Long Focus Capital.
A group of angel investors also took part in the investment, including former Thomson Financial CEO David Flaschen, StockTwits founder Howard Lindzon, Adobe CPO Scott Belsky, and Moat President Aniq Rahman, among others.
Launched in 2015, Sentieo is a research platform for financial teams, combining traditional and alternative datasets. Asset managers, investment banks and corporations can search through financial data, manage documents and collaborate through the cloud-based platform.
Sentieo, which utilises natural language algorithms, processes more than 20 million financial documents from 64,000 companies to provide essential information.
This investment comes after Sentieo saw a rapid level of growth raising its client base from 150 to over 450, including five of the world’s ‘top 10 hedge funds’, according to the company.
Capital from the round will be used to build on the platform and accelerate growth.
Sentieo CEO and co-founder Alap Shah said, “As former financial analysts ourselves, Sentieo was born out of a very personal need for better tools to aid investment decision-making and Alpha generation. We applied our own experience to create a unique, multidimensional solution that provides clients with the powerful and intuitive tools that they need.”
Earlier in the week, Dubai-based investment data platform MAGNITT.com netted $1m in its Seed funding round to support its expansion in the region and other emerging markets.
The financial research and analysis sub-sector of data and analytics picked up the smallest amount of capital, last year. Of the $2.1bn invested in the sector, around 19 per cent was deployed to the financial research and analysis space, according to data by FinTech Global.
