There are not enough cybersecurity professionals in the world to meet the digital defence demands of the global business world, according to a new study by non-profit (ISC)².
The researchers surveyed 3,237 individuals responsible for the cybersecurity at their companies across Europe, North America, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific.
Not only did they found that 65% felt there were too few skilled workers in the sector, but also that the current global workforce would have to grow by 145% from 2.8 million to 6.87 million to close the skills gap.
The study also found out who the people currently working the cybersecurity industry were. Of those, 37% were below the age of 35 and 5% were under the age of 25.
Moreover, 58% of cybersecurity professionals had moved from other sectors to get into the industry.
Most of the people in the sector said that they were either somewhat or very satisfied in their jobs.
