German challenger bank N26 boasts having five million customers

N26 has increased its customer base with 1.5 million new customers, according to the challenger bank’s founder.

The Berlin-based digital bank reported that it had 3.5 million customers last summer. That number has now grown to five million, according to CEO Valentin Stalf who spoke with Reuters.

“We added more customers in 2019 than we did in all the prior years put together,” Stalf said.

The FinTech founder did not share financials or give a market breakdown, but said growth at N26 was strongest in Germany, France and Austria, while Italy and Spain had a chance to achieve a similar rate of expansion.

The German challenger bank officially launched in the US in August, after having beta-tested the app over the summer.

The US launch also meant the launch of two additional features: MoneyBeam that lets users send money instantly to other N26 customers and perks like discounts on subscriptions paid for by the N26 card.
