It seems as if Facebook is still serious about getting the ball rolling with the cryptocurrency initiative Libra as the social media giant has announced plans to hire 50 people to work on its FinTech project.
The company has announced that it is planning to source 50 new talented employees in Ireland to work on its digital wallet Calibra, according to the Irish Times. The digital wallet would be used to make payments with the new cryptocurrency.
The digital wallet was announced last year at the same time as Facebook unveiled its plans to spearhead the launch of the new cryptocurrency Libra. Facebook was one of the original members of the Swiss-based Libra Association that is behind the project.
Last year, Facebook said that it planned to roll out Libra and its digital wallet in 2020. However, an avalanche of lawmakers and regulators expressing concerns about Libra could have delayed the project.
Nevertheless, the news about Facebook looking to recruit new staff to work on the FinTech initiative combined with the news that Swiss regulators have begun to process the Libra Associations application to get a payment services licence, suggest that the project is very much still ongoing.
