Spanish banking and insurance company CaixaBank is embarking on a new biometrics-powered initiative to add more security for its users.
The new project sees the lender set up ATMs equipped with facial recognition software across Spain. This enables the customers to log in to their accounts by the image captured by the terminal’s camera, forgoing the need for a pin, according to a report by Atalayar.
It plans to have finished the rollout by mid-July this year.
The news comes hot on the back of CaixaBank inking an agreement with IBM Services earlier in June to accelerate its hybrid cloud journey and to strengthen the bank’s capability to develop innovative and digital-first solutions.
The deal will see CaixaBank leverage IBM’s Cloud Pak for applications running on Red Hat OpenShift to manage workloads and applications across its overall cloud infrastructure. The bank also agreed to continue to work with IBM in their joint innovation centre to apply advanced technologies like AI, and additionally explore quantum computing and blockchain solutions.
