On the back of new customer feedback, Dutch challenger bank bunq has unveiled a new feature that makes it easier for users and their friends to donate to causes they care about.
bunq recently launched a public beta test of the next version of its app and asked its users what they thought about it and what new features they would like.
“We asked our users for their feedback on our new app and they didn’t disappoint,” said Ali Niknam, founder and CEO of bunq. “They told us they want a way to give back to the causes closest to their hearts with their like minded friends – and so Common Goals was born.”
The new feature empowers users to create a common goal whenever they want, for anything they want and instantly share it with friends, family, colleagues, loved ones, everyone can donate.
“At bunq we’re not just a bank – we’re here to make our user’s lives easier, and leave the world in a better place than when we started,” Niknam says. “That’s why we have partnered with five amazing charities with this launch.”
One Acre Fund, Free a Girl, Salt Farm Foundation, LittleBitz and Terres des Hommes are the five charities already connected to the Common Goals feature.
One Acre Fund helps small farm owners to to grow their way out of hunger and poverty. With significantly higher crop yields, they can build new prosperous lives.
Free a Girl fights the commercial sexual exploitation of children by rescuing them out of prostitution, raising awareness among communities and actively help those susceptible to human trafficking and vulnerable families by guiding them towards a better future and providing education.
Salt Farm Foundation shares and develops open-source and practical knowledge on salt-tolerant crops and saline agriculture methods with farmers worldwide, in an effort to combat salinisation and to improve food security, with minimal impact on already scarce fresh water supplies.
LittleBitz is the easy and effective way of giving. All little bits together make a big difference. LittleBitz introduces direct giving of small amounts to those who need it most.
Terre des Hommes fights against child abuse, online sexual exploitation, child trafficking and child labour to ensure children can develop to their full potential in a safe environment.
“Our goal is to stop child exploitation,” said George Ooms, team lead of private market at Terre des Hommes. “A goal we can only realise with people and partners that are willing to make the change, who are committed to make the world a better place. And giving should always be easy. With its new feature Common Goals, bunq provides just that. A super easy tool that enables the public to engage with, give to and fundraise for charities. We are very happy to be part of the launch of Common Goals. Thank you bunq! Together we can stop child exploitation. Join the fight.”
Of course, bunq is hardly the only challenger bank to have teamed up with charities. For instance, UK neobank Revolut has a donations feature in its app too. In March and April it also announced that it had partnered with the Trussell Trust foodbank network and Médecins Sans Frontières. Revolut also released research in April that suggested that Brits have become more charitable following the coronavirus pandemic, with them giving more money to support different causes.
Similarly, Pride Bank in Brazil was founded to provide a service for the nation’s underbanked LGBT population. As part of that, the neobank said it will give 5% of its income to the Instituto Pride to support charities that help LGBT people.
