Remote workers using personal devices causes rise in cybersecurity risks

From: RegTech Analyst

Almost a quarter of professionals working from home have used unauthorised devices, which has increased the risk of breaches, according to new research from CybSafe, the London-based cybersecurity software platform.

Having polled 600 remote workers, it found that 23% used unauthorised devices, 20% haven’t installed updates to collaboration and video conferencing tools like Zoom, and 23% said they hadn’t installed software updates to devices connected to their home wifi, ITProPortal reported.

“We now live in a world of borderless organisations where increasing numbers of people work remotely,” said Oz Alashe, CEO at CybSafe. “Many are mobile. The lines between personal and professional are increasingly blurred. And everyone is at greater risk.”

“Some staff are making cybersecurity mistakes in their homes, and businesses will need to adjust their cybersecurity approaches accordingly. What may have worked in the past doesn’t necessarily work now. Cybersecurity policy as well as awareness and behaviour change programmes will all require updates based on today’s working conditions.”

CybSafe secured £3.5m through a Series A funding round in September 2018.
