Aqua Security becomes a unicorn after the close of its Series E

Cybersecurity platform Aqua Security has closed its Series E round on $135m, putting its valuation at more than $1bn.

The investment was led by ION Crossover Partners, with commitments also coming from M12, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Insight Partners, TLV Partners, Greenspring Associates and Acrew Capital.

With the funds, the unicorn hopes to deepen its product portfolio and expand its geographical presence.

Aqua Security has built a cloud native security platform that enables enterprises to protect their infrastructure. Its solution provides prevention, detection and response automation across the whole application lifecycle to secure cloud infrastructure wherever they are deployed.

The RegTech company has raised a total of $265m in funding since it was founded in 2015. The company previously raised $30m in its Series D round in May 2020.

ION Crossover Partners general partner Gili Iohan said, “In speaking with Aqua’s customers, it was clear that Aqua has the best platform for Kubernetes and cloud native security. Its ongoing innovative support for the wide range of multi-cloud environments, and superb customer success, have helped customers accelerate their move to cloud native platforms. We look forward to working with Aqua to further grow the business to drive global adoption and category dominance.”

Earlier in the month, fellow cybersecurity company Axonius also became a unicorn. The RegTech reached the $1bn valuation after a $100m Series D round.
