IT consultancy giant Accenture has suffered a ransomware hack at the hands of ransomware group LockBit 2.0.
Accenture – a tech specialist known to serve a range of industries such as automobiles, banks, government, energy, telecoms, technology and more – has confirmed the hack, according to Bleeping Computer.
Accenture is valued at $44.3bn and employs around 569,000 people, making the company a hot target for many cybercriminals.
Following the hack, the LockBit 2.0 group is now threatening to publish data that was stolen from the company during the attack – with the gang claiming they will publish it if a $50m ransom is not paid.
LockBit 2.0 have not provided any proof of the stolen data yet, however, they are still claiming they are willing to sell it to interested parties.
Bleeping Computer highlighted that the systems affected by the attack have been recovered from a backup. It was also revealed that the threat actors claimed to have secured access to the Accenture network from a ‘corporate insider’.
It was revealed earlier this week that the Australian government had warned of LockBit 2.0 and its escalating ransomware attacks after it had been found trying to recruit insiders from companies the gang was planning on breaching in exchange for a cash reward.
