Helping individuals back private equity funds – Moonfare scores Series C

Moonfare, a digital private equity investment platform for individual investors, has collected $125m in its Series C round.

Insight Partners, a New York-based private equity firm, served as the lead investor.

This equity injection will enable Moonfare to develop innovative investment solutions and accelerate its international expansion.

Moonflre provides individual investors with access to select private market funds, which were previously only available to institutions.

The FinTech company claims that households with over $1m available to invest is steadily growing, with it estimated to be around 20 million households in 2021, according to data from Cap Gemini World Wealth Report 2021.

Private equity and venture capital is a good way to diversify their portfolios, but individual investors are under-exposed in private strategics, with access limited by high minimum investment requirements, regulatory restrictions and administrative burdens, Moonfare claims.

This is where Moonfare comes in. Its platform is designed to enable qualified individual investors to invest directly into top-tier private equity and venture capital funds at low minimums.

The company surpassed the €1bn assets under management milestone in September, which means it has doubled its assets in just eight months. The company currently operates in 13 countries across Europe and Asia, with offices in Berlin, Hong Kong, London and Luxembourg.

Insight Partners managing director Matt Gatto said, “In an impressively short time, Moonfare has established itself as the international leader in an extremely large and expanding market.

“They have curated a selection of the world’s top private equity and venture capital funds and enabled access for individual investors through a digital platform that provides a seamless user experience and is built for scale. We look forward to partnering with Moonfare on their continued growth.”

With the close of the round, the FinTech company has raised a total of $185m in funding to date. The FinTech company previously raised funding in March 2021 from Fidelity International Strategic Ventures, which was part of a distribution partnership.

Insight Partners has backed several FinTech companies this year. Most recently, it led the $250m Series D of Papaya Global. The FinTech company helps implement automated solutions for hiring, onboarding, managing, and paying.
