Naomi Osaka links with FTX to become global ambassador and shareholder

Naomi Osaka has become a global ambassador and shareholder of crypto firm FTX in a long-term partnership focused on bolstering access and opportunity to women in crypto.

Osaka – a four-time Grand Slam singles champion in tennis – will receive an equity stake in FTX and will receive compensation in crypto.

According to FTX, Osaka will focus on bringing women onto the platform and into the future of Web3. She will have an active role with FTX to bolster its status as a world-leading crypto exchange and will also creatively direct and produce content alongside FTX. She will also debut the FTX logo on her looks for the upcoming Miami Open.

FTX will also make charitable donation to Play Academy, which is Osaka’s charitable organisation created with Nike and Laureus Sport Good, which has the aim of changing girls’ lives through play and sport.

Osaka said, “We have seen the statistics about how few women are part of crypto by comparison, which kind of mirrors the inequality we see in other financial markets. Cryptocurrencies started with the goal of being accessible to everyone and breaking down barriers to entry. I’m excited to partner with FTX to get back to that mission and to innovate on new ways to reach more people and further democratize the space.”

FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried added, “Just as FTX is at the forefront of crypto markets, we want to be at the forefront of social change. Our partnership with Naomi Osaka will further our goal of getting more diverse voices involved in the future of digital currency and Web3. I am excited to work with Naomi as we look to educate those groups and create a positive impact in the world.”
