Athenium expands offering amid growing demand for climate risk intelligence

Athenium Analytics, a provider of climate intelligence and enterprise risk analytics, has launched a historical tornado data set available through the Esri ArcGIS Marketplace.

Through its geographic information system (GIS) software, location intelligence, and mapping, Esri aims to help customers unlock the full potential of data to improve operational and business results.

This offering, which Athenium said is the first of its kind, provides access to 25 years of historical tornado insights, including two-dimensional damage swaths from all confirmed tornadoes in the contiguous US between 1995 and 2019.

Athenium said the comprehensive tornadic data set allows Esri users to better analyse and predict catastrophic losses. With regard to tornado’s in particular, despite their frequency in the US and potential for disruption, they are “notoriously” difficult to forecast.

Moreover, the solution improves access to weather risk insights amid a growing demand for enterprise climate intelligence.

Robert Laudati, director of global partners and Alliances at Esri, said, “We’re pleased to welcome Athenium Analytics to Esri’s ArcGIS Marketplace. Athenium brings a decade of risk analytics expertise, including leading-edge weather and climate intelligence solutions that enable public and private organizations to mitigate the risks associated with climate change.

Earlier this year, Athenium Analytics partnered with Duck Creek Technologies to deliver natural hazard risk scores to help carriers manage climate and property risk across the US.
