Capricorn Financial Consultancy has reached carbon neutral status after partnering with Evertreen, an international tree-planting platform.
The mortgage broker will now plant a tree in Kenya for every mortgage completed.
This initiative aims to plant over 7,00 trees each year, with 834 having been planted in the Gazi Mangrove Forest, so far.
It claims this has absorbed 125,100kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to date.
Mangroves will be planted. These are small trees that have adapted to low-oxygen conditions of waterlogged mud.
The project also aims to benefit all coastal communities that are dependent on natural resources for income and acutely affected by the changing climate.
Capricorn Financial Consultancy CEO and founder Conor Murphy said, “With the UK having baked under 40-degree heat waves in recent weeks, there is a renewed urgency to meet climate goals. Businesses have a crucial part to play in achieving these goals, not only in setting standards for their employees, but also in shaping norms within their sector.
“With offices in London, Hong Kong, and Singapore, and the language skills to service 90% of the world population, Capricorn truly has a global focus, so it’s only right that we work towards a greener, more sustainable future for all, and we invite our clients to make additional contributions towards our goal.”
