A report by Forrester has found that up to 75% of respondents struggle with securing their cloud environments.
According to CyberNews, almost 50% of firms said that they believe overlooking cloud security will lead to heightened vulnerability and delayed response to breaches, while 65% consider it crucial to ensure the environment’s proper safety.
Only 39% of respondents said they have a clear and periodically updated cloud security while just over half – 56% said they lacked a holistic approach.
The report said, “Current cloud security practices and tools are not cloud-comprehensive and heavily rely on foundational cloud-native security controls or adapting on-premises architecture for the cloud environment.”
The report also found that some of the challenges that hindered cloud security development included struggling with a centralised integration of cloud controls as well as securing the remote and in-office workforce on any device. Furthermore, many respondents said they lack internal skills and certifications as well as struggling to maintain their competitive edge.
Forrester underlined that the companies that failed to overcome these challenges will face down increased vulnerability to security breaches, slower event detection and response and delays in reactions to security events.
It said, “Ultimately, these security issues will lead to negative customer experiences, decreased profitability, and loss of competitive edge while also derailing digital transformation efforts and product innovation.
“Firms that successfully develop a strong hybrid cloud security program will reap many benefits, including achieving their top business and security objectives of better integration/holistic security coverage and improved security and protection of customer data.”
Data-driven cloud security company Lacework received an investment earlier this year from GV and established a new partnership with Google Cloud.
The size of the investment was not revealed.
Lacework’s Polygraph Data platform provides automated anomaly detection for Google Cloud’s trusted, global infrastructure. The solution will soon be made available via Google Cloud Marketplace so customers can easily purchase Lacework and integrate the platform into their environment and identify potential issues and threats.
