Barclays has announced the appointment of James Edmonds as Global Head of Sustainable Project Finance.
Based in New York, Edmonds will lead the project finance team, with a focus on helping clients transition to net zero.
Barclays operates in the banking and financial services industry, offering a wide range of services including investment banking, retail banking, commercial banking, and wealth management. The company has a strong focus on sustainable finance, having set a goal to facilitate $1tn of sustainable and transition financing by the end of 2030.
James Edmonds is the newly appointed Global Head of Sustainable Project Finance at Barclays. He will be responsible for providing project financing solutions for clients aiming to decarbonise their operations and to monetise associated opportunities. Previously, Edmonds served as Head of Real Assets Finance, Americas at HSBC for over 12 years, leading various sectors including infrastructure, power, utilities, natural resources, transition minerals, and digital sectors.
James Edmonds’s move to Barclays follows a series of sustainable finance-focused appointments by the company. His expertise in areas such as offshore wind and real assets will further bolster the firm’s capabilities in sustainable finance.
Last month, Barclays announced several senior appointments to its Sustainable and Impact Investment Banking (SIB) team. Additionally, the bank has already delivered over £87bn ($112bn) of green finance towards its goal of facilitating $1tn of sustainable and transition financing between 2023 and 2030.
Travis Barnes, Global Co-Head of Capital Markets at Barclays, said, “James will deepen our existing expertise in areas such as offshore wind and help us further develop our project finance advice and product capabilities for clients as they look to decarbonise their businesses.”
Daniel Hanna, Global Head of Sustainable Finance, said, “We have an ambition to facilitate $1tn of sustainable and transition finance by 2030. James is another exceptional hire as we continue to deepen our sustainable finance franchise across Barclays so that we can support our clients to transition to low carbon business models and accelerate the deployment of the next wave of climate technologies.”
