US PayTech MoneyGram has recently appointed Edwina Johnson as the new general manager for MoneyGram Online International.
Johnson commenced her new role in October, bringing more than 15 years of professional experience to the job, including a significant tenure working with technology start-ups, according to FinTech Futures.
Previously, she was associated with Alloy, an identity risk management platform for banks and FinTechs, where she served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and later as the head of the global division for six years.
She has further contributed to the industry as a part of Startupbootcamp FinTech, initially as COO, subsequently advancing to the position of program director. Currently, she also holds roles as an angel investor at Ada Ventures and Ventures Together.
The move also coincides with Moneygram’s plans to lead the digital transformation across the financial services landscape. The firm has recently introduced their non-custodial wallet on Stellar, in a bid to underline their push.
Edwina Johnson expressed her delight at the move to join the US firm through a LinkedIn post. She said, “MoneyGram are transforming a legacy brand into a digital first business. Launching a non custodial wallet on Stellar highlights how ambitious this team is, not just in meeting but leapfrogging the current status quo. MoneyGram reaches over 200 countries and territories, moving $200bn annually with an ability to send money online in nearly 40 countries. Fifty percent of transactions are now digital and my remit is to grow MoneyGram Online outside of the States as fast as possible.”
