Allianz has introduced an innovative tool designed to track the emission reductions and investments needed to achieve commitments made by countries under the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The solution, known as SAMEpath, is designed to outline how the green transition can be achieved before the ever-nearer 2050 deadline by meticulously outlining the necessary emission reductions and associated investments, aligning with the ambitious 1.5°C target

The cutting-edge dashboard, developed by Allianz Research, will map out the economic shifts and possible transition risks across various sectors and economies under different climate scenarios. It will achieve this by examining the energy mix and assessing the speed of implementation, offering insights that vary by region, country, and sector.

The dashboard serves a dual purpose – informing stakeholders and the public about economic developments and potential transition risks for sectors and economies in different climate scenarios.

Users of SAMEpath can conduct tailored data searches, enabling them to display and download specific information on variables, regions, and scenarios. The dashboard features a geographical map, facilitating easy comparisons between countries based on different variables, scenarios, and years.

Furthermore, SAMEpath includes a Risk Assessment section, allowing users to identify climate transition risks across various sectors and the entire economy. The Abatement Cost Curves subsection explores the relationship between emission reductions and the associated carbon price required to achieve those reductions.

Ludovic Subran, Chief Economist at Allianz SE, said, “The purpose of Allianz is that ‘We secure your future. We take that seriously and are supporting our stakeholders as best as possible in their efforts to achieve their Net Zero targets. SAMEpath is part of that commitment as it can form the basis for investment and underwriting decisions worldwide.

“After the Paris Agreement, the thinking was that the world needed a simple Google Maps-like tool to orient us on reducing greenhouse gases (GHG). Unfortunately, there is an almost unmanageable number of models and scenarios now. SAMEpath simplifies this into one tool that can inform users where we are, how we can reach Net Zero from here and do so given the situation.

“SAMEpath is a living tool. It’s open source, free and ready for integration into projects and provides a valuable outside-in perspective that can help to inform long-term business decisions and investments.”
