Tietoevry has announced the completion of its three-year Sustainability Game Plan, achieving remarkable sustainability milestones through 2023.
The company’s comprehensive sustainability report, aligned with GRI Standards, unveils its strategic approach and ambitious targets for the future, focusing on climate action, ethical conduct, and fostering an inclusive workplace. This initiative underscores Tietoevry’s commitment to not just enhancing its environmental and social footprint but also setting a new standard for the tech industry’s role in sustainable development.
Chief Sustainability Officer at Tietoevry, Ida Bohman Steenberg, highlighted the company’s significant strides in sustainability. “Our noteworthy sustainability achievements include reducing our environmental footprint and exceeding our climate-action targets. We have also made solid progress in the area of human rights, with a systematic and process-oriented approach,” she shared. The 2023 game plan explored “Impact Opportunities,” aiming to co-create sustainability-driven projects with customers, marking a crucial step towards Tietoevry’s enhanced sustainability impact.
Tietoevry’s sustainability achievements from 2021 to 2023 are commendable, particularly in emission reduction, circular economy, and social sustainability. The company reported an 84% decrease in carbon emissions within its operations and a significant step towards its 2022 Science Based Targets commitments. Furthermore, Tietoevry has made considerable advances in renewable energy, with 99% of its global electricity consumption for data centers and offices coming from renewable sources, largely due to strategic location consolidations in Sweden and the Czech Republic.
The push for circularity saw Tietoevry aiming for 100% reuse and recycling of hardware, notably achieving up to 98% recycling rates for customer devices. Despite these successes, Bohman Steenberg acknowledges the need for continued progress in climate action. Tietoevry’s commitment to diversity is also noteworthy, with initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in the tech industry, although reaching the target of 40% female employees by 2026 remains a challenge.
Looking forward, Tietoevry is not resting on its laurels. The company is poised to introduce a new sustainability plan, further minimizing its environmental footprint and leveraging technology to support its customers’ sustainability efforts. “In the coming years, we are committed to further minimizing our environmental footprint through the value chain, and helping our customers do the same through the sound use of technology,” Bohman Steenberg concluded, outlining the company’s future-oriented sustainability commitments.
The key results for 2023 reflect Tietoevry’s ambition and dedication to sustainability: achieving 99% renewable electricity in its operations, surpassing its goal with an 84% reduction in energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, and making significant strides towards gender equality and responsible hardware recycling.
