Mastercard has announced a significant addition to its leadership team with Jon Huntsman joining as Vice Chairman and President of Strategic Growth.
Huntsman, a seasoned diplomat and politician known for his extensive service including as U.S. Ambassador and Governor, will spearhead Mastercard’s efforts to expand commercial partnerships with governments and public sector institutions. Furthermore, he will drive the company’s inclusive growth, philanthropy, and sustainability agenda, reporting directly to Mastercard’s CEO, Michael Miebach.

Jon Huntsman brings a wealth of experience to Mastercard, with a career spanning four decades across both public and private sectors. His roles have included U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, China, and Russia, as well as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, where he negotiated numerous trade and investment agreements worldwide. Additionally, his leadership roles in corporations such as the Huntsman Corporation and Ford Motor Company, alongside his commitment to philanthropy through the Huntsman Foundation, demonstrate his comprehensive expertise and dedication to social impact.
The significance of Huntsman’s appointment is underscored by his unique background, which includes negotiating critical trade agreements and leading major corporations. His track record of fostering inclusive and sustainable growth aligns with Mastercard’s strategic objectives, particularly in areas of philanthropy, sustainability, and digital-driven economic expansion.
