Thredd, a pioneering payments processor with a global clientele, has officially entered the United States market for issuing debit and prepaid cards, in collaboration with its long-standing partner, B4B Payments.
This significant step is part of Thredd’s commitment to facilitating its clients’ expansion into key international markets, highlighting the company’s role in supporting US-based issuers with Durbin-compliant debit and prepaid processing services. Thredd’s move into the US market is not only a milestone for the company but also a strategic decision aimed at assisting EU and UK-based clients with their stateside expansion strategies.
Since 2021, B4B, a Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) provider, has been operating in the U.S., and this migration will see the processing of dual-branded Visa and STAR Network cards. This ensures compliance with the strict regulations governing debit processing in the country, further cementing the partnership that extends from the UK and Europe to the U.S.
Thredd’s approach to building its US client base involves offering comprehensive support to businesses aiming to enter the American market. Its services include processing debit and prepaid card transactions for Visa and other U.S.-based PIN networks such as STAR, NYCE, Pulse, Accel, Maestro, Interlink, Plus, and Cirrus.
Jim McCarthy, Thredd’s CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the U.S. expansion, noting, “Our U.S. expansion is a major step for Thredd as it both supports our clients’ expansion objectives and paves the way for our growth in this major payments market. Making this first move working closely with a trusted client like B4B Payments to further their U.S. business is especially notable.
“As a modern and agile payment processor supporting a broad set of use cases from digital banking to B2B disbursements, Thredd is well positioned to provide organisations with a trusted alternative to legacy U.S. providers.”
Kieran Draper, CEO of B4B Payments USA, also highlighted the strategic importance of partnering with Thredd in the U.S., stating, “Partnering with Thredd in the U.S. is strategically important for B4B Payments because it provides us with a single platform and processor for all programs in Europe, the UK, and the U.S.,” Draper stated. “This provides our global clients with a unique and competitive solution that makes it easy for them to rapidly onboard and scale confidently.”
