Assurant acquires iSmash, expanding UK's premier tech repair services

Assurant, a global leader in lifestyle and housing solutions, today announced the strategic acquisition of iSmash, the UK’s top independent tech repair brand.

Assurant is renowned for supporting, protecting, and connecting significant consumer purchases, while iSmash specialises in express drop-in repair services for smartphones, tablets, and laptops, having established a strong retail presence across the UK since its founding in 2013.

The acquisition enables Assurant to scale and enhance its leadership in the drop-in repair market significantly. While the exact value of the deal was not disclosed, the merger is poised to create the most robust drop-in repair network in the UK, featuring 68 locations staffed by highly trained and accredited technicians.

Assurant, a Fortune 500 company, operates across 21 countries, offering a wide array of business services that connect, protect, and support consumer purchases. This includes mobile device solutions, extended service contracts, and various insurance products. On the other hand, iSmash has quickly risen to prominence since its inception in 2013, boasting 38 retail locations and 152 employees, dedicated to providing quick and efficient tech repair services.

Post-acquisition, the combined efforts under the iSmash and Pocket Geek Tech Repair banners will bolster Assurant’s drop-in repair capabilities, complemented by a local device care facility for mail-in repairs. This integration promises enhanced mobile device solutions and a streamlined service offering for UK customers.

The merger not only strengthens Assurant’s position in the mobile device solutions sector but also aligns with iSmash’s mission to deliver outstanding value and service. iSmash will continue its operations within Assurant’s Global Connected Living business line, preserving its brand identity and dedication to quality repair services.

Assurant Europe President Christian Formby said, ““We are thrilled to welcome iSmash to Assurant to strengthen our position as a leading provider of mobile device solutions in the UK.

“By integrating iSmash’s drop-in repair services and local device care facility, we can offer our customers more convenient and faster options to get their devices fixed. This will enhance our mobile offerings and create more value for our clients and consumers.”
