Token Security, a machine identity startup, has secured $7 million in seed funding, signalling a step forward in its mission.
According to Silicon ANGLE, the funding round was led by TLV Partners, with participation from SNR and notable angel investors including Shlolo Kramer, a prominent figure in Israel’s cybersecurity landscape.
Token Security is pioneering a new approach to identity management, shifting the focus from human-centric systems to a “machine-first approach”. Traditionally, identity management has centred around human identities, but Token Security argues that in an era of exponential growth in machine identities, this approach is no longer sufficient.
Instead of relying solely on lists of employees and contractors, Token Security’s platform identifies and tracks the machines and services within a company’s IT infrastructure. By integrating with existing infrastructure and analysing data, the platform evaluates systems for security threats and manages access permissions.
Ido Shlomo, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Token Security, explained, “We take the security organization all the way from being in the dark to remediating real risks and cutting down exposures to a minimum.” The platform prioritises critical identities and vulnerabilities, reducing risk through remediation capabilities.
Token Security’s machine identity-based approach addresses the challenges posed by cloud and microservices-based architectures, where machine identities outnumber human identities by a significant margin. Itamar Apelbat, co-founder and Chief Executive, highlighted the increasing prevalence of identity-based attacks, emphasising the need for a comprehensive solution that covers all major cloud infrastructure platforms.
The platform is designed to integrate seamlessly with leading cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Snowflake, as well as various identity management tools and source code repositories. This enables Token Security to provide contextual analysis and identify unauthorized access, enhancing overall security measures for companies.
With this latest round of funding, Token Security is poised to further develop its platform and expand its presence in the rapidly evolving landscape of identity management.
“Legacy solutions deal with on-premise identities, which are mostly human. But in the cloud and generative AI era, identities are no longer human only, and they’re not in one place – they are all over the place,” said Itamar Apelbat, CEO of Token Security
“We take the security organization all the way from being in the dark to remediating real risks and cutting down exposures to a minimum. We cluster identities, credentials and entitlements for different teams – Engineering, DevOps, Data engineers, SREs and more.” added Ido Shlomo, CTO of Token Security.
