Monzo, the leading digital bank in the UK, has introduced a groundbreaking pension product aimed at simplifying the retirement savings process.
The new offering, Monzo Pension, is designed to tackle the challenges of managing multiple pension pots by consolidating them into a single fund accessible through the Monzo app. This innovative solution addresses a significant need, as recent research from Monzo shows that a staggering 51% of UK adults, approximately 24m individuals, are unaware of their retirement savings total.
Monzo Pension emerges in response to the overwhelming feeling of anxiety and complexity expressed by 77% of UK adults when considering their pensions. With 30% finding the consolidation process too intricate, Monzo’s new product aims to streamline and demystify retirement planning. By allowing customers to simply provide details about their previous employment, Monzo efficiently locates and merges all old pensions into a single fund managed by BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager.
This service not only eases the management of retirement savings but also tailors investment strategies to the customer’s desired retirement age, balancing risk as it approaches. Customers can expect a transparent fee structure with the Monzo Pension, which includes a platform fee of 0.45%—reduced to 0.35% for Monzo Perks and Max subscribers—and a fund fee of 0.18%, totalling an annual fee of 0.63% of the invested value.
Registration for the Monzo Pension is now open in the Monzo app, with a phased rollout planned over the coming months.
Andy Smart, General Manager of Savings, Investments and Pensions at Monzo, said, “We know from speaking with our customers that visibility and knowledge of their pension is low and anxiety is high – so we’ve designed Monzo Pension to solve exactly these pain points. Managing multiple pensions and planning for retirement is unnecessarily complex, which means people default to avoiding it and end up on the back foot. Now our customers can get on the front foot and keep tabs on their future financial goals alongside the rest of their finances in the Monzo app – planning not just for today or next month, but for years to come.”
