Lloyds Banking Group, a leading UK financial institution, has appointed Rohit Dhawan as director of AI (artificial intelligence) and advanced analytics.

Lloyds Banking Group, a leading UK financial institution, has appointed Rohit Dhawan as director of AI (artificial intelligence) and advanced analytics.

In his new role, Dhawan will lead the Group’s AI Centre of Excellence, combining experts in data science, behavioural science, ML engineering, advanced analytics, and AI ethics, according to FF News.

His responsibilities include shaping the overall AI, ML, and advanced analytics strategy, driving technical excellence, and promoting AI-enabled product adoption.

An industry veteran with a PhD in artificial intelligence from the University of Sydney, Dhawan joins from Amazon Web Services, where he was the head of data and AI strategy for the Asia-Pacific region. His experience includes integrating AI into customer and operational processes and establishing a multidisciplinary data and AI function.

Dhawan’s leadership will bolster Lloyds Banking Group’s commitment to attracting and retaining leading AI and ethics talent in the UK. The Group’s AI Centre of Excellence includes over 30 PhDs in key disciplines and maintains one of the UK’s largest data science graduate programmes.

He will report to Ranil Boteju, the Group’s chief data and analytics officer.

Lloyds Banking Group, renowned for its extensive banking and financial services, continues to innovate with this new role. The Group aims to enhance its AI capabilities and drive the adoption of AI-enabled products and services, benefiting its 27m customers.

As part of its strategy to accelerate digital transformation announced in February 2022, Lloyds Banking Group has recruited 1,500 technology and data specialists this year, bringing the total to over 4,000 in the past two and a half years.

This move is aligned with the Group’s efforts to enhance customer experience through AI and analytics, including over 50 use cases such as speeding up support, improving chatbot tools, and early fraud detection.
