MSCI has announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Mattison as Head of ESG and Climate, effective October 29.
In his new role, Mattison will spearhead the firm’s ESG and Climate product development and business strategy. Reporting to Alvise Munari, Chief Product Officer, he will be based in London and collaborate with key leaders across the organisation, including Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez and President Baer Pettit, to enhance innovation and expand the ESG and Climate product franchise.
MSCI is renowned for delivering high-quality data, advanced analytics, and client-driven solutions to the world’s premier asset managers, asset owners, and banks. The company plays a pivotal role in equipping investors with the necessary tools to stay at the forefront of sustainable investing.
Dr. Richard Mattison brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having spent over two decades in sustainable finance. His previous roles include serving as President of S&P Global’s sustainability unit and CEO of Trucost Plc, a trailblazer in climate analytics acquired by S&P Global in 2016. Mattison has been a key adviser to financial institutions, governments, and companies worldwide, helping them integrate sustainability and climate change considerations into their decision-making processes. Notably, he has been involved with influential groups such as the EU’s High Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance and the People’s Bank of China’s Green Finance Taskforce. Currently, he also serves as a Senior Advisor to the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).
