Optera, an innovator in ESG and carbon management software, has introduced a new iteration of its Supply Chain Manager.
This updated version has been designed to help organisations comply with stringent regulatory demands for reporting scope 3, category 1 emissions.
The need for the product arises from a growing regulatory landscape that includes the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and California’s Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act. These regulations necessitate precise and auditable emissions data across the supply chain. In response, Optera has upgraded their platform to offer more detailed emissions management at a granular level, thus promoting more effective decarbonisation initiatives across corporate value chains.
Optera specialises in providing robust ESG and carbon management solutions that enable companies to measure and mitigate their environmental impact efficiently. Their platforms are known for integrating comprehensive emissions data and advanced calculation capabilities to support sustainable business practices.
The new Supply Chain Manager enhances the functionality of Optera’s existing system. It includes the provision for more detailed supplier data, increased transparency in emissions calculations, and a quicker onboarding process for companies starting their emissions reporting. Additionally, the user interface has been improved to foster better collaboration among corporate sustainability teams and other stakeholders.
Further enhancements in the new Supply Chain Manager include a built-in database with emissions data from over 10,000 companies and more rigorous supplier data quality standards. The system now supports facility-level, business unit, and soon, product-level emissions data from suppliers.
Optera has also introduced an Outreach module that complements the standard database by facilitating direct data collection from suppliers at varying levels of emissions reporting readiness. This module is pivotal for companies engaging with suppliers who are at different stages of their sustainability journeys.
Recent surveys conducted by Optera among professionals in sectors like manufacturing, retail, financial services, and IT, emphasize the importance of supplier engagement in meeting science-based targets and standard emissions reporting. Findings show a significant commitment to decarbonisation across the value chain, with over 90% of respondents actively reporting emissions to regulators and stakeholders.
“Optera is committed to transforming the approach to sustainable supply chain management,” CEO and co-founder Tim Weiss said. “Our enhanced Supply Chain Manager not only simplifies emissions data management but also empowers companies to take actionable steps towards comprehensive climate action.”
