Mastercard, a global leader in payment solutions, has joined forces with foodpanda, a leading online food and grocery delivery platform owned by Delivery Hero, to accelerate the adoption of digital payments in Pakistan.
The partnership aims to support Pakistan’s transition to a cashless economy by addressing the gap between cash and digital payments, according to FF News.
Leveraging Mastercard’s secure payment technologies and foodpanda’s widespread network, the collaboration will foster inclusive growth and strengthen the country’s digital payment ecosystem.
Mastercard provides seamless and secure payment solutions worldwide, enabling individuals and businesses to benefit from digital transactions.
The company is committed to advancing financial inclusion and creating a more connected global economy.
foodpanda, part of Delivery Hero’s portfolio, is one of Pakistan’s most popular platforms for food, grocery, and courier services. With its extensive reach and large customer base, the firm plays a vital role in connecting consumers to convenient delivery options.
Through this collaboration, Mastercard and foodpanda launched the Payment Switch initiative, aimed at converting cash-on-delivery (COD) users to digital payments. This effort is supported by exclusive benefits for Mastercard users, including discounts of 20% for Gold and Titanium cardholders (code: MC20) and 30% for Platinum, World, and World Elite cardholders (code: MC30). These offers apply across foodpanda’s verticals such as food delivery, shopping, and grocery.
The initiative aligns with data from the State Bank of Pakistan, which revealed a significant 11.2% increase in currency in circulation during the first half of 2024.
By promoting digital payment solutions, the partnership seeks to reduce reliance on cash while enhancing customer convenience.
“By combining our global expertise in seamless and secure payment technologies with foodpanda’s vast reach, we are making digital payments more accessible and convenient for consumers across the country. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in our efforts to drive the shift to digital payments in Pakistan and fuel the growth of the country’s digital economy,” Mastercard senior vice president, Digital Partnerships, EEMEA, Muhammad Nana said.
“With high smartphone penetration and robust digital infrastructure, Pakistan is primed for rapid adoption of cashless solutions. Our partnership with Mastercard enables us to accelerate this transformation, turning COD users into active digital consumers. As we serve a significant percentage of the population, this initiative reflects our commitment to innovation and financial inclusion in untapped markets,” foodpanda Pakistan CEO Muntaqa Peracha said.
