Mastercard, a global leader in payment technology and services, has announced a strategic collaboration with Nomba, a Nigerian-based FinTech company providing innovative payment solutions.

The two firms have joined forces to transform how businesses in Nigeria, and eventually across Africa, manage and process digital payments.

The collaboration centres around integrating Mastercard Gateway into Nomba’s Checkout platform.

This integration aims to streamline payment experiences for businesses, enabling them to provide more efficient, secure, and seamless transactions for customers both locally and internationally. The move aligns with broader goals of expanding digital payments access and driving financial inclusion in underserved markets.

Mastercard offers a trusted global payments infrastructure, supporting businesses and consumers with cutting-edge technology in secure transaction processing, fraud protection, and cross-border capabilities.

With its operations spanning the globe, Mastercard is also advancing its mission to bring one billion people into the digital economy by 2025.

Nomba, on the other hand, is a rapidly growing FinTech company that offers comprehensive payment solutions tailored for African businesses. Its Nomba Checkout solution supports a wide range of payment methods, including international cards and QR codes.

By focusing on simplifying financial processes, Nomba empowers small and medium-sized enterprises to scale more efficiently.

Beyond technical integration, the partnership delivers a host of benefits for businesses. These include enhanced fraud prevention, improved data protection, faster transaction processing, and seamless customer experiences. Leveraging Mastercard’s infrastructure, businesses can optimise their operations and access a broader customer base.

The collaboration is a forward-looking initiative to strengthen the digital payment ecosystem across Africa. Both companies share a commitment to fostering innovation, efficiency, and inclusion. As digital payment adoption grows, the partnership sets the stage for a more connected and accessible financial future for African enterprises.

Mastercard country manager and area business head for West Africa Folasade Femi-Lawal said, “As Mastercard continues driving innovation and financial inclusion, we are thrilled to join forces with Nomba in its mission to deliver premier payment solutions to businesses in Nigeria. Our broader mission includes bringing one billion people into the digital economy by 2025, and this collaboration with Nomba is an important step in driving that goal. With our trusted global infrastructure and cutting-edge technology, we are excited to support Nomba in its efforts to drive the growth of digital payment solutions, offering businesses a faster, safer, and more reliable way to connect with customers.”

Nomba head of product Jafer Ali Shariff said, “At Nomba, what excites us is seeing our customers’ growth journey and this collaboration with Mastercard is a fundamental step that unlocks new opportunities. As we work towards building a digital Africa, Mastercard’s global expertise and state-of-the-art technology will allow Nomba Checkout to deliver the speed, efficiency and reliability our customers need to scale their businesses.”
