Worldpay, a global payments technology and solutions provider, has announced its expansion into Colombia with the launch of new domestic acquiring capabilities.
The company, a major player in the payments space, already has a strong presence in Latin America, servicing top-tier merchants in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
The move is part of Worldpay’s broader strategy to expand its footprint across Latin America. By entering Colombia, the company aims to capitalise on the region’s rapidly growing e-commerce sector and help local and global merchants scale. While no financial terms were disclosed, the expansion underlines Worldpay’s commitment to growing its domestic acquiring presence and payment capabilities across emerging markets.
Worldpay, headquartered in the US, offers payment processing solutions for businesses of all sizes. Its suite of products includes e-commerce payment gateways, fraud prevention tools, secure authentication technologies, dispute management and data-driven insights. In Colombia, it will provide local merchants access to its global network, enabling smoother international expansion and enhanced digital payment experiences.
The expansion introduces a variety of advanced services to the Colombian market. These include multi-layered fraud protection, 3D Secure, secure customer authentication, and comprehensive support for authorisation, clearing and settlement processes. Worldpay also provides access to dispute resolution systems and deep data analytics to help businesses optimise their payment strategies.
A key component of the move is Worldpay’s deployment of a local team in Colombia. This regional unit is tasked with helping both domestic and international businesses operating in Colombia design tailored payments strategies based on data insights and a deep understanding of local payment preferences. This approach aims to unlock the country’s growing potential in digital wallets and e-commerce.
The Colombian expansion follows Worldpay’s recent growth in Mexico and aligns with the company’s global plan to scale its domestic merchant acquiring network. With the addition of Colombia, Worldpay now operates domestic acquiring services in 69 markets worldwide.
Worldpay group president of global enterprise Gabriel de Montessus said, “Our vision to unleash the potential of every business means breaking down barriers for global merchants while enabling access to the rest of the world for local players, which is why extending our presence in countries like Colombia is a key focus for us.”
Montessus continued, “Our ambition is to be the payments partner these businesses need in order to power their growth, supporting them by coupling our global reach and revenue-enhancing solutions with the industry leading global and local expertise, tailored to our merchants’ needs.”
