Sokin, a global payments and foreign exchange provider, has officially been named the Official Global Payments Partner of the Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Men’s Tour to Australia 2025.
The British & Irish Lions, one of the most storied names in international rugby, is gearing up for its much-anticipated tour, with Sokin stepping into a key financial role, according to FF News.
The partnership will see Sokin manage international payments and foreign exchange services for the Lions throughout the duration of the tour. This collaboration is designed to simplify and streamline the team’s global payment needs, enabling seamless transactions as they travel and compete across Australia.
Sokin specialises in borderless payments and currently handles over $4.5bn in annual transaction volume. The firm is known for supporting high-profile clients in the sporting world, including an ongoing relationship with Premier League football club Nottingham Forest, and other top European football teams. The British & Irish Lions partnership marks a significant step in Sokin’s expansion strategy, especially as it enters the Australian market.
The British & Irish Lions is a composite rugby union team comprised of players from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, that undertakes international tours every four years. It is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious teams in world rugby.
As part of the sponsorship, Sokin’s branding will feature prominently throughout the tour, including on players’ shorts, LED boards in the stadiums, interview backdrops, and other visual platforms.
This agreement further positions Sokin as a go-to FinTech provider for major sporting institutions and supports its mission to redefine how businesses manage international payments. The partnership also provides a high-visibility platform for Sokin to increase brand awareness during one of the most watched events in the rugby calendar.
Sokin chief growth officer James Hannaford said, “Partnering with The British & Irish Lions is a powerful sign of intent for Sokin as we continue our rapid global expansion and launch in Australia.
“This partnership highlights the growing strength of our brand and underscores our commitment to redefining global business payments. With a presence in key international markets and alignment with one of sport’s most respected teams, Sokin is making a bold impact on the global stage.”
British & Irish Lions chief commercial officer Tom Halsey said, “It is great to welcome Sokin to The Lions family as we get ready to head to Australia this summer.
“There is nothing in world sport quite like a British & Irish Lions Tour and the cross-border and global nature of a Tour means that partners like Sokin are a perfect match.”
