Sofri launches upgraded app to promote ESG banking

Sofri, a technology-led financial institution powered by Nigeria’s Links Microfinance Bank, has launched a revamped digital app platform to enhance user experience and embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) values into its core offerings.

According to This Day, the overhaul is part of Sofri’s mission to make banking more inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to societal needs. The new platform is designed to better align the company’s operations and lending processes with ESG principles, including green financing and support for waste-to-wealth entrepreneurs.

Sofri provides digital banking services to individuals and businesses, focusing on simplifying traditional finance through innovation and purpose-driven technology. Its services aim to bridge the financial inclusion gap in Nigeria, particularly among underserved communities.

The newly relaunched app features a streamlined user interface, faster onboarding, and instant loan application capabilities, aiming to make everyday banking simpler and more accessible. For businesses, a corporate internet banking portal has been introduced to support SMEs with secure payments, direct transfers, payroll processing, and account management—eliminating the need for traditional, manual instructions to the bank.

A central aspect of this revamp is Sofri’s broader commitment to ESG integration. The company said it is shifting beyond standard financial services to address environmental sustainability and societal well-being, by embedding dignity, inclusion, and hope into its business model.

The initiative marks a critical step in positioning Sofri as a key contributor to Nigeria’s circular economy. The firm said its renewed digital offering not only improves technical performance but also supports financial empowerment in an environmentally conscious way.

Sofri managing director Paul Adebayo said, “The motivation behind this comprehensive overhaul was to address previous challenges and re-engineer processes to deliver a more robust and efficient service. Sofri’s core values of dignity, inclusion, and hope underpin all its operations, focusing not just on financial metrics but on the lives they touch.”

He added, “Another key change is our corporate internet banking portal designed for small and medium-scale businesses, this portal enables secure payments, direct transfers, payroll processing, and enhanced account management, reducing the reliance on sending instructions to the bank.”
