American Express is soaring to new heights with Wizz Air, as the low-cost airline begins accepting Amex Cards for bookings and onboard purchases, offering more flexibility for business and leisure travellers alike.

The collaboration enables American Express (Amex) Cardmembers to use their cards for flight bookings and onboard purchases with Wizz Air.

This partnership is intended to provide more seamless payment experiences and exclusive benefits for both business and leisure travellers.

Wizz Air, which operates nearly 800 routes across Europe and beyond, serves over 70 million passengers annually.

With this new integration, Amex Cardmembers can make payments via the airline’s website and mobile app, and soon will have access to exclusive discounts through the Amex Offers platform.

American Express, widely recognised for its premium financial products and loyalty rewards programmes, is expanding its UK acceptance footprint.

This latest move with Wizz Air reinforces its strategy of increasing Cardmember utility across major travel sectors. Wizz Air, known for its ultra-low fares and expansive European network, sees this partnership as a way to attract more corporate travellers who prefer Amex for its trusted reputation and travel-related perks.

This agreement adds to Amex’s growing list of merchant partners in the UK. The company is now accepted by all major airlines flying in and out of the country, along with every major supermarket chain, high street retailers, and a vast network of small businesses.

The airline partnership builds on Amex’s broader travel and transit acceptance, which already includes every UK rail company, Transport for London’s contactless network, and recent deals with regional bus operators like Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus.

Additional travel benefits for Amex Cardmembers include airport lounge access, global travel insurance, and the ability to earn enhanced Membership Rewards® points. For instance, The Platinum Card® offers unlimited entry to over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide, along with 2x Membership Rewards points for bookings made through American Express Travel Online.

American Express UK general manager, merchant services Dan Edelman said, “We are committed to ensuring our Cardmembers can use their Card wherever they live, work and travel. We’re delighted that American Express is now accepted by Wizz Air, one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines. This agreement gives our Cardmembers travelling for both leisure and on business greater flexibility when spending with Wizz Air and further cements our strong merchant acceptance across airlines and beyond.”

Wizz Air chief financial officer Ian Malin added, “We are excited to offer American Express as a payment option to our passengers across Europe. Many corporate travellers prefer Amex, so this ensures they can enjoy our ultra-low fares and extensive route network with greater ease and flexibility. American Express is a globally trusted name in payments, and this integration reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers, while also enabling smoother transactions at every stage of their journey with Wizz Air.”
