Cobre launches real-time B2B payments in Colombia

Cobre is set to become the first platform in Colombia to offer real-time, interbank payments exclusively for businesses, it claims.

The announcement marks a major leap in the country’s financial digitalisation efforts, with the service scheduled to go live in September.

The company handles over 1.5bn enterprise transactions monthly across Colombia, and the introduction of the country’s new Bre-B interoperable payment rails is expected to double this figure.

Through this integration, businesses will be able to receive payments in real time using aliases or keys, without modifying their current accounting processes or internal payment systems. This promises to significantly reduce operational friction.

Beyond streamlining internal processes, Cobre’s latest upgrade allows companies to receive payments continuously — 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including public holidays.

Cobre CEO and co-founder José Gedeón said, “At Cobre, we believe innovation should go beyond the buzzword. That’s why we’ve worked hard to bring real-time to enterprise payments in Colombia before anyone else. This benefits not only our clients, but also the country’s entire financial modernization agenda.”

Cobre’s early access programme will be offered to a diverse range of customers including large retailers, FinTechs and logistics firms, enabling them to be the first to benefit from the system-wide upgrade.

Gedeón added, “This has been the result of months of joint work with various ecosystem partners. This is definitely another step in our mission to provide innovative, efficient financial tools for companies.”
