M-Files has announced a major step forward in its collaboration with Microsoft, becoming the first document management system to natively store content within Microsoft 365.
This partnership introduces an integrated solution that allows M-Files to use Microsoft’s SharePoint Embedded to deliver smarter, AI-powered content management.
The move aims to solve long-standing issues caused by legacy document systems—such as fragmented data and inefficient workflows—by enabling better content governance, lifecycle management, and collaboration across Microsoft 365.
Documents managed in M-Files can now be retrieved more precisely, used more effectively with AI tools, and kept within a secure Microsoft environment.
Through this integration, M-Files users can co-author documents using Microsoft 365, automate tasks using AI, and meet compliance requirements through Microsoft Purview. Businesses benefit from enhanced productivity and reduced risk without needing custom development.
Microsoft 365 collaborative apps and platforms president Jeff Teper said, “M-Files brings tremendous value to the Microsoft ecosystem through deep industry expertise and purpose-built business use cases.
“This revolutionary offering, the first-of-its kind built on SharePoint Embedded, combines Microsoft’s collaborative platform with M-Files’ business-centric processes and scaled document management to deliver a solution that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Together, we’re unlocking the full potential of Microsoft 365 investments for our customers.”
M-Files CEO Jay Bhatt said, “This partnership marks a pivotal moment for M-Files and the industry.
“As the first document management system to use both Microsoft 365 and its API-only service, SharePoint Embedded, we have fundamentally changed how enterprise content is managed and accessed at scale. This isn’t just another integration—it’s a native solution, built over months of collaboration, that combines M-Files’ strengths in metadata-driven automation and AI with Microsoft’s powerful collaboration, security, and Copilot capabilities. For organizations invested in Microsoft, M-Files is now the clear choice for document management.”
