Brightwell expands pension tech with Ortec’s PEARL

Brightwell continues to strengthen its partnership with Ortec Finance as it builds on its evolution from a single-client model to a broader multi-client offering for UK defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. The collaboration, which has spanned more than a decade, is helping Brightwell deliver enhanced performance insights and workflow efficiencies using Ortec’s PEARL platform.

In 2012, Brightwell began its transition away from exclusively managing the BT Pension Scheme to offering services to additional pension schemes. A key part of this shift was prioritising investment performance and reporting as a central element of its proposition. Delivering this capability in a multi-scheme environment required a flexible and scalable solution to meet the varying needs of different pension schemes.

Each pension scheme can differ significantly in its structure, investment approach, and reporting requirements. Brightwell needed a system that could accommodate these differences, particularly in how benchmarks and fund hierarchies are defined. Tailoring performance measurement workflows to reflect these nuances was vital to ensure data accuracy and strategic alignment for each client.

By integrating Ortec Finance’s PEARL platform, Brightwell has gained a robust solution for investment performance analytics. PEARL’s configurable fund structure and flexible data environment allow Brightwell to build custom workflows that can be easily adapted for each pension scheme it manages.

The collaboration between the two firms stretches back over a decade. Ortec Finance’s Investment Performance team has been instrumental in supporting Brightwell’s day-to-day performance attribution workflows, including reconciliation and analytics at the portfolio level. These capabilities are particularly critical for Brightwell’s liability-driven investment (LDI) and hedging strategy tracking.
