Mastercard, a global leader in payment technology and innovation, has launched the AI Card Design Studio, a new platform that empowers issuers with AI-powered tools to quickly and creatively design payment cards.

The launch addresses growing demand for faster, more personalised and emotionally resonant card designs, while also reducing time-to-market for card issuers.

The AI-powered solution helps meet market readiness goals and strengthens brand identity in a competitive landscape.

Mastercard operates as a multinational payments network, facilitating digital transactions across more than 210 countries and territories.

Known for its focus on security, innovation and seamless payment experiences, Mastercard continues to lead advancements in financial technology.

The AI Card Design Studio offers card issuers a fast, affordable and customisable platform for generating card designs. Users can upload brand assets such as logos and product details, use AI-assisted design features, make real-time customisations, and instantly download final designs. What used to take weeks can now be done in a matter of minutes.

In future updates to the platform, banks will be able to offer consumers and small businesses the ability to create their own card designs. This feature responds to the rising demand for customisation and personal expression in financial products, especially among digital-native consumers.

This innovation is part of Mastercard’s broader strategy to simplify the entire lifecycle of card design and development. The company has already introduced AI-powered design reviews for backend processes. The AI Card Design Studio now applies similar technology to the front-end creative journey, providing greater control and creative efficiency from the outset.

The tool also allows design teams to prioritise high-level creative strategies by automating lower-value tasks, helping partners produce eye-catching, emotionally resonant cards without the traditional delays of design production cycles.

Mastercard’s previous design-forward initiatives include the Touch Card, designed for accessibility, and a sustainable card programme committed to eliminating first-use PVC plastics by 2028. These innovations, along with its multisensory branding efforts, highlight Mastercard’s commitment to design excellence and continuous evolution in FinTech.

The AI Card Design Studio is now available in North America, Europe and Australia through the Mastercard Connect platform, with additional global rollouts expected soon.

Mastercard executive vice president of Global Brand Strategy and Innovation Cheryl Guerin said, “The AI Card Design Studio is a game-changer. We’re transforming card design into an experience that’s easier, more dynamic and more inspiring. This isn’t just a design tool, it’s a leap forward in how cards are imagined, built and brought to life. By putting powerful capabilities directly in our partners’ hands, we’re enabling them to create cards that don’t just function – they connect.”
