Worldpay and Trulioo have joined forces to introduce safeguards for AI-powered agent-led commerce.
The collaboration is designed to enhance trust, consent and accountability in the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven digital payments.
The partnership has been formed in response to the growing role of AI agents in shopping on behalf of consumers. Both companies aim to address the need for verifying agent identities, capturing auditable shopper consent and meeting changing regulatory demands. The new safeguards are expected to prevent fraud, protect consumers and give merchants confidence when dealing with agent-based transactions.
Worldpay provides technology that enables merchants to accept payments across a wide range of channels and geographies, supporting businesses from small enterprises to global brands. Trulioo offers a comprehensive digital identity verification platform, delivering real-time global coverage to help organisations verify individuals and businesses, meet compliance obligations and reduce fraud.
Central to the collaboration is the Know Your Agent (KYA) framework, which uses a Digital Agent Passport to provide a tamper-proof credential bundle. This will enable merchants to determine whether an AI agent is legitimate, authorised and operating with the correct consumer consent. The framework will also verify the developer’s identity, code integrity, user consent and ongoing trustworthiness of the agent in real time.
Through this initiative, merchants will be able to validate consumer intent and ensure AI shopping agents are properly authorised, thereby reducing the risk of unauthorised purchases while supporting sales growth. The partnership will also facilitate smarter checkout flows, enhance real-time fraud detection and improve merchant conversion rates without compromising safety or visibility.
Instead of blocking AI agents entirely, the joint approach will apply smart controls. Verified agents will be granted access, unknown agents will be subject to additional checks, and malicious bots will be blocked outright. This layered security model is expected to benefit the entire ecosystem by reducing fraud, improving detection of AI agents and supporting regulatory compliance.
Worldpay chief product officer Cindy Turner said, “Innovation in payments must always be grounded in integrity and trust. By partnering with Trulioo, we’re delivering the trust infrastructure our ecosystem needs and empowering businesses and consumers to embrace AI-powered commerce with confidence, knowing that safety and transparency are at the heart of every transaction.”
Trulioo chief executive officer Vicky Bindra said, “Agentic commerce has significant potential, but it can only scale with trust built in from the start. With Worldpay, we’re laying the foundation for a more secure and accountable digital ecosystem – one where AI agents can operate transparently, and consumers stay in control.”
