UK FinTech funding fell by 28% YoY in H1
In H1 2025, the UK FinTech sector recorded 129 deals, down 34% from the 194 deals completed in H1 2024 and flat compared to H2 2024, which also saw 129 deals.
Total funding reached $2.9bn in H1 2025, a 28% decrease from the $4bn raised in H1 2024 but only a 7% drop from the $3.1bn recorded in H2 2024.
Despite the slowdown in activity, funding has remained comparatively resilient, suggesting that investors continue to deploy capital selectively into higher-quality opportunities.
Trend analysis shows a projected drop of 21% in deal activity for 2025
If the H1 2025 trend were to continue across the rest of the year, 2025 would close with around 258 deals and $5.7bn in total funding.
This would represent a 21% decline in deal volume compared to the 323 deals completed in 2024, but a modest 2% increase in total funding from the $7.0bn raised last year.
Such a trajectory highlights a shift in investor behaviour towards fewer, more meaningful transactions, rather than broad-based deal activity.
Deals over $100m dropped by 22% as investors grew cautious
Funding from deals under $100m totalled $936m in H1 2025, down 38% from $1.5bn in H1 2024 and 37% lower than the $1.5bn recorded in H2 2024.
In contrast, deals valued at $100m or more brought in $1.9bn, a 22% drop from $2.5bn in H1 2024 but a 21% increase on the $1.6bn raised in H2 2024.
This reallocation of capital towards larger transactions underlines a cautious but strategic investor stance, favouring scale and resilience over early-stage growth.
