Thunes launches real-time payments in Morocco

Thunes, the global payments infrastructure provider, has announced the launch of its real-time payment services in Morocco.

Thunes, the global payments infrastructure provider, has announced the launch of its real-time payment services in Morocco.

The expansion aims to address growing demand for fast, efficient cross-border payments into Morocco, one of Africa’s top receiving countries, according to FF News.

The new product allows Thunes’ Members to facilitate real-time transactions directly into Moroccan bank accounts, with payouts supported in Moroccan Dirham (MAD).

This service ensures faster, cheaper and more transparent cross-border money transfers, compared to legacy systems.

By integrating directly with the Moroccan banking network, Thunes removes unnecessary intermediaries, streamlining payment flows.

This development supports Morocco’s increasingly connected and digitised economy while giving Thunes’ Members greater access to one of Africa’s most important remittance markets.

The launch builds on findings in Thunes’ 2025 Report: Money Without Borders, which revealed that 65% of expatriates prioritise speed when choosing a payment method. With this expansion, Thunes reinforces its mission to support the next billion end users, advancing financial inclusion and connecting more people to the global economy.

Aik Boon Tan, chief network officer at Thunes, said, “As the demand for seamless, real-time cross-border payments into North Africa continues to grow, Thunes is committed to offering fast and reliable alternatives to legacy systems. This latest expansion of our Direct Global Network into Morocco marks an important milestone for Thunes and our Members around the world, giving them the opportunity to truly enhance the speed of their consumer and business cross-border payments.”

Chloé Mayenobe, president and COO at Thunes, added, “Speed has become more than a preference in cross-border payments, it’s an expectation and a key factor for end users when choosing a solution. With the launch of direct payouts into Morocco, we’re giving our Members the power to deliver faster, cheaper, and more transparent transactions into one of Africa’s most vital markets.”
