F5 moves to buy CalypsoAI to strengthen AI guardrails

F5

F5, a Nasdaq-listed company known for securing applications and APIs, has announced plans to acquire CalypsoAI, an enterprise AI security pioneer.

F5, headquartered in Seattle, is recognised as a global leader in application delivery and security, while CalypsoAI, based in the United States, has developed an award-winning platform for real-time threat defence and AI risk management.

The acquisition aims to strengthen enterprise protection at a time when AI adoption is reshaping business technology. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, F5 said CalypsoAI’s platform will be integrated into its Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP), enhancing the company’s position as a provider of AI, app and API security.

F5’s core services focus on ensuring the performance, delivery, and security of applications and APIs. The company works with enterprises globally to manage increasingly complex digital ecosystems. CalypsoAI specialises in securing generative and agentic AI deployments, offering tools such as large-scale red teaming, adaptive guardrails, and data security measures. Its platform enables enterprises to manage risks associated with AI inference, including adversarial threats and compliance failures.

The companies said that combining their capabilities will help enterprises move faster with AI adoption without heightening risk. CalypsoAI’s technology provides protection against new AI threats such as prompt injection and jailbreak attempts. It also delivers runtime data security guardrails to prevent sensitive information leaks and offers centralised observability to support compliance with regulations including GDPR and the EU AI Act.

Industry analysts have been flagging the growing importance of independent security controls as enterprises adopt AI more widely. Gartner recently highlighted that organisations need to retain independence from specific AI model or hosting providers to maintain scalability, flexibility, and cost control in the face of a rapidly maturing market. F5 said its integration with CalypsoAI is designed to directly address these needs, providing proactive, model-agnostic security solutions across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

F5 president and CEO François Locoh-Donou said, “AI is redefining enterprise architecture—and the attack surface companies must defend. Traditional firewalls and point solutions can’t keep up. The addition of CalypsoAI will give enterprises the confidence to innovate faster and better protect critical data as they rely on F5 to deliver and secure apps, APIs, and AI models across their environment.”

CalypsoAI CEO Donnchadh Casey said, “Enterprises want to move fast with AI while reducing the risk of data leaks, unsafe outputs, or compliance failures. Our customers rely on us to pressure test AI systems at scale, set inference layer guardrails that adapt as models change, and to gain visibility and auditability across their AI estate. F5 and CalypsoAI are more than the sum of their parts: high performance application delivery and AI security that enable businesses to deliver innovation faster without increasing risk.”
