Airwallex launches Nordic currency support for issuers

Airwallex has introduced support for Nordic currencies across its issuing services, in a move designed to strengthen its footprint in Europe and provide greater flexibility for customers operating in the region.

The development marks the company’s first step into the Nordic market and represents a significant milestone in its European expansion strategy.

From launch, customers based in the EU can now transact directly in Danish Krone (DKK), Norwegian Krone (NOK), Swedish Krona (SEK), and Polish Zloty (PLN). Transactions in these currencies will be debited directly from Airwallex’s multi-currency wallets, removing the need for additional foreign exchange conversions and helping customers save on fees.

The addition of these currencies is a response to rising demand among European businesses for more localised payment solutions. By reducing friction and providing direct billing options, Airwallex aims to deliver more relevant services for clients that want to scale both within Europe and internationally.

Airwallex vice president, Benelux & Middle East Or Liban said, “Enabling Nordic currencies for our issuing customers addresses one of the most frequent requests from our European customers. By enabling direct billing in Nordic currencies, we’re removing friction, reducing costs and making our product more local and relevant for businesses operating in the region and wanting to operate globally.”

The initiative comes as Airwallex continues to strengthen its position in the global payments sector. Earlier this year, the company announced a $300m Series F funding round, valuing the business at $6.2bn. Airwallex has also expanded its brand presence through high-profile sports partnerships, including a global collaboration with Arsenal Football Club and an existing relationship with McLaren Racing in Formula One.
