HyperBunker bags $925k seed to launch ransomware device

HyperBunker, a company specialising in ransomware prevention and critical data recovery solutions, has raised €800,000 in seed funding to ramp up production of its new anti-ransomware device.

The investment round was led by Fil Rouge Capital and Sunfish Venture Capital, both known for supporting early-stage technology innovators across Europe, claims Security Week.

Founded by Imran Nino Eskic and Bostjan Kirm, HyperBunker is pioneering a next-generation approach to ransomware protection. The firm’s flagship device was initially conceived within InfoLAB Data Recovery, where Eskic served as founder and CEO. After repeatedly encountering clients seeking to recover ransomware-encrypted data—often an impossible task through traditional recovery methods—Eskic sought a new way to ensure the integrity of original data.

Over a three-year period, this idea evolved into the HyperBunker device. Confident in its potential, Eskic launched HyperBunker in 2024 alongside co-founder Kirm, who serves as CEO, while Eskic now holds the position of CTO.

The company plans to use the fresh capital to expand production capacity and meet growing demand for ransomware-proof data storage devices. The funding will also support product development and market expansion as HyperBunker aims to bring its hardware-based solution to more businesses vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Unlike conventional backup systems that remain susceptible to ransomware, the HyperBunker device is entirely software-free and air-gapped from any network, ensuring it cannot be targeted by malware or remote attackers. It automatically collects and stores data locally, without requiring cloud connectivity or human access. This approach effectively eliminates the typical points of entry exploited by ransomware.

To further enhance security, HyperBunker employs a proprietary file security encryption (FSE) protocol, providing an additional layer of protection. Kirm commented that “We advocate encryption at the source (on the user’s site) to maximize speed and reduce processing overhead within the vault.” This design also ensures full compliance with data security regulations.

Critical data is collected automatically from user networks at regular intervals, maintaining workflow continuity and preserving the original folder structure during restoration. HyperBunker emphasises that its solution is not merely a backup tool but a true data preservation system designed for post-attack recovery.
