Trend Micro and Cifas launch JustMe to combat fraud

Cifas and Trend Micro have announced a strategic partnership to launch JustMe, a first-of-its-kind mobile app designed to protect users from identity fraud and online scams.

The collaboration aims to address the UK’s growing fraud problem, which now accounts for 44% of all recorded crimes in England and Wales and costs the economy an estimated £219bn annually. With UK consumers losing approximately £10bn to online scams this year alone, both organisations are seeking to deliver a proactive, user-driven defence against fraud.

Cifas operates the National Database, the largest and most diverse source of fraud-risk data in the UK, allowing organisations to share and access real-time fraud intelligence. The database shows that identity fraud accounts for 59% of all reported fraud cases, highlighting the urgent need for new solutions to protect consumers.

Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity with decades of experience in threat intelligence, provides advanced technologies that safeguard millions of consumers and businesses worldwide. Its expertise in digital security complements Cifas’s data-driven approach, creating a partnership capable of tackling fraud from both prevention and detection angles.

The JustMe app integrates real-time identity verification and scam detection, empowering users to control how their personal data is used and helping them identify trusted online interactions. Through the app, users receive instant alerts if applications such as credit card or loan requests are made in their name, allowing them to verify legitimacy in real time. They can also report suspicious communications—such as texts, emails, or social media posts—for verification, helping reduce exposure to scams.

Cifas CEO Mike Haley said, “Cifas’s partnership with Trend Micro promises to be transformational. Our shared ambition is to provide tools millions of people to protect themselves from fraud. By combining the proven strengths of Cifas and Trend Micro, we’re aiming to deliver a market-leading solution that sets a new benchmark for fraud prevention. This is a groundbreaking move that elevates our capabilities and reinforces our commitment to protecting individuals and organizations from the ever-evolving threat of identity fraud.”

Trend Micro chief consumer business officer Frank Kuo said, “We are proud to stand in partnership with Cifas in our shared mission to take a more proactive approach to fighting identity fraud and online scams. They are a unique organization well-poised together with their membership to stop cybercriminals from causing further harm to consumers. JustMe is a simple but powerful solution intended to give consumers a way to fight back.”
