Primer, the unified infrastructure provider for global payments and commerce, has launched Primer Companion, a purpose-built AI agent designed to support merchants navigating complex international payment ecosystems.
The company introduced Primer Companion to address what it identifies as a significant gap in payments management, according to FF News. Many businesses operate with under-resourced teams that must oversee large payment volumes, monitor risks, and identify revenue opportunities in real time.
Primer aims to equip these teams with intelligent tooling that can augment capacity and streamline operational decision-making.
Its platform integrates data from across the payments ecosystem, providing merchants with tools to enhance authorisation rates, reduce costs and create flexible payment workflows.
Primer Companion brings intelligence into the payment stack by understanding the specific language and logic of a merchant’s environment.
Unlike general-purpose AI tools, it reasons rather than simply responds. The product serves contextual recommendations within the Primer platform, provides a real-time conversational interface, automates approved actions, and embeds strict safety and privacy principles throughout its design.
The AI agent is powered by extensive global payments datasets, capturing more than 400 data points for every transaction. This data depth enables Primer Companion to generate highly tailored insights, helping merchants optimise authorisation performance, lower costs, and accelerate rollout strategies across markets.
Primer Companion is part of a wider slate of product developments being unveiled during the company’s Primer Showcase. The event, which streams on 19 November, will introduce further enhancements across the payment lifecycle. Registration for the showcase is currently open.
