Klarna, the global digital bank and flexible payments provider, has expanded its partnership with Blackhawk Network (BHN), a leading branded payment solutions provider, to capture a share of the US gift card market, which is projected to reach $447bn in 2025.

The move aims to offer consumers increased choice and flexibility in their holiday gifting purchases.

The company has launched this expanded product to meet growing consumer demand for convenient and wasteless gifting, particularly as gift cards remain America’s most-wanted holiday gift.

Through this enhancement, consumers can now use Klarna to purchase digital gift cards from more than 350 brands on Giftcards.com. Additionally, hundreds of brands using BHN’s digital gifting platform can now offer Klarna as a checkout option within their own digital gift card stores, strengthening customer choice.

Shoppers can select from Klarna’s suite of payment options, including Pay in Full, Pay in 4 interest-free instalments or Financing for larger gift card values. All options are transparent, with no hidden fees, giving consumers improved visibility and control during the holiday shopping period.

Klarna is also expanding its Gift Card Mall offering into Canada and France, adding to its existing launches in the US, UK, Germany, Netherlands and Italy.

Consumers in both new markets can now use the Klarna app to buy and send gift cards from leading global brands, complete with personalised notes and scheduled delivery features.

“As we continue to grow rapidly in the U.S., this expanded partnership with BHN gives millions of consumers even more flexibility and control over how they buy and give gifts,” said Klarna chief commercial officer David Sykes. “Digital gift cards are surging in popularity, and Klarna is meeting consumers where they prefer to shop, making it easier than ever to send the perfect gift with payment options that fit every budget.”

“At BHN, our mission is to connect brands and people through innovative, trusted, and seamless gift card experiences,” said BHN chief revenue officer Brett Narlinger. “Klarna shares that same commitment to flexibility and a straightforward customer experience. By expanding our partnership, we’re making it easier for millions of shoppers to buy and give the brands they love, on their own terms, just in time for the holidays. Together, we’re broadening access to digital gifting and payments in ways that reflect how people prefer to shop today.”
